Wireframes- Place page

Image
This is what the page for each of the places will look like. The top of the page will have a bar that shows the logo for the place and the place name. Then below it will be a small grid that shows the things that they have available there, for instance if there is free WIFI, plug sockets, etc. Then there will be a map next to it, this will show where the place is compared to the person. There will be a box below that shows a small about section for the place. Then there will be a grid below that that shows the ratings for the place in detail, for example it will show the overall rating, food/drink rating and the prices of the place.

Wireframes-Ratings page

Image
The next button on the opening page is the ratings button, this will take the user to the ratings page of the app, this is where the user can rate places that they had been. This page will have a list of different buttons that take you to a page where you can rate each place specifically. For instance, the user chooses Manchester Central Library, this will take them to a page that has a bar at the top saying the place that they picked and a logo for this place. Then there will be different boxes that they can choose and rate certain things. So there is a box to rate the food/drink out of 5 stars, then the same with noise and the price. Then there would be a big box at the bottom of the page that is for any comments that the user might want to leave.

Wireframes- Popular page

Image
The next button takes you to the popular page, this will show a list of the most popular places. At the top of page it will have a bar that shows the app logo and the word popular. Each big button will show the place name, logo, how its overall rating is, the location and have a little grid that shows small symbols for each thing that they feature, such as a small WIFI symbol. When pressed these buttons will take you to the page for the place.

Wireframes- Recents page

Image
The button after categories is the recents page. The top of the page will have a bar that shows the logo, then says the title of the page. There will then be a list of places that you recently went to. The places button will have a small logo next to them, and when pressed they will take the user to the page for the place that they chose.

Wireframes- The categories page

Image
This page goes from the opening page, once the button is pressed this page will open up. This page will be to choose certain categories that the user can choose that will then eliminate the places that do not have these categories that the user chose, leaving only places with the option that they wanted. For instance if the user wants a place with free WIFI so they choose that category, this will then go to a page that only shows places with free WIFI.

WireFrames- Opening page

Image
This is how I want my opening page to look like, the app will open to this page. I would like there to be a bar at the top that says the name of the app and has the logo next to it. Then below it I want there to be a map that shows where the user is and shows places near by to them. Below that would be a button to the categories section, then the next button is recent, then popular and then ratings. Next to the writing on the buttons I want there to be little icons that show the type of things they are for, for instance with the ratings button it would have a small star next to it.

Typography

Image
For the typography used in the app I wanted it to be in the style of a typewriter, this is because it matches that the app is about studying and the theme of books on a whole. I also like this style of fonts so I wanted to use them on the app. This font is off of the website DaFont. I chose this specific typewriter font because it was more legible than some of the others that had erosion or other deterioration details to make them look older than it was.

Colour scheme

Image
I wanted my color scheme to be pastel colors, as I want the app to look peaceful yet colorful, however I wouldn’t use dark or bright colours as it could make the app look intimidating.  I then chose the color blue because it is calm looking, which is what I want my app to make people feel.

Logo

Image
I came up with 4 different sketches for the logo, then I drew them in several different ways to see how each would look. I am now going to create them in Photoshop or Illustrator, so I can see what they will look like done more graphically. For my final logo I decided on this open book style one as it was my favorite out of the ones that I had drawn out.

Final idea

Image
The final idea for my app is to have it be a study app, that helps you find alternative places to study. The app’s target audience is students aged 18-21, I chose for the cut off to be a bit younger than what it is on the brief, because most of the people that did my VOX were in this age range. Another reason is that I want the app to have a more younger look, which would not match with people aged 25. The app will have lots of different places to study, and there will be a function that will allow the user to choose different things that they want to be at the study place, this will then eliminate all of the places that do not fit this criteria. There will also be a function where the user can rate their experience in the place they went to, so this rating could be for the food and drink, how quiet it was, and how expensive it was to study there. The kind of places that are within the app, are all alternative, so it could be a coffee shop, library, etc. However they wi...

Name ideas

Image
I tried to think of some names for my app, I wanted it to be related to studying, since the main function of the app is going to be to find places that you can study. I first looked at a thesaurus for words that are similar to study, I found: Inquiry, Essay and Advancement, that I liked. I then had a look at fraises or words that are similar to ‘Looking for’ and found: Forage, Seek out and Gather. I then looked into translations for the word Study in different languages. Studie (German) étude (French) Studija (Bosnian) Etid (Haitian Creole) Yeongu (Korean) Studie (Swedish) Estudiar (Spanish) My favorite so far is Studie , however I am not sure about it yet.

Initial idea

Image
For my initial ideas I thought that I could make an app that showed lots of different food places and then have an option where you could choose the place by your dietary requirements. Then I thought of one where it has lots of different places to study, and it shows if they have free WIFI etc. Then I finally had the idea to show small independent fashion shops and they can be selected by category of clothing. My favorite idea out of them was the study places app, this is because it is quite flexible and I can do many different things with this idea. I then brainstormed some ideas for the app and what it should include, I thought that it could be for both inside of Manchester and around it, this is because people live in different areas around Manchester and they might not want to travel into it to go and study. Another idea was that they should show what the places include, such as free WIFI, plug sockets, no time limit, etc. I also thought that there should be a rating ...
